Every credible conversation about software at a nuclear site starts with classification, so this page starts there too. Indagate is not safety-related software, is not qualified to 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, and belongs nowhere near a protection system. What it does is the rest of the site.
Where the boundary sits

- Structures, systems and components relied on to shut down the reactor and maintain it safe. Indagate is not one, does not interface with one, and is not qualified to be
- Balance of plant
- Everything outside that classification: turbine hall services, cooling and HVAC, compressed air, site utilities
- Site facilities
- Office buildings, warehouses, training and simulator buildings, gatehouses — ordinary building automation on an extraordinary site

- The quality assurance criteria for safety-related work. Indagate is not procured under it, and any scope that would require it is out of scope

Procured as what it is
Indagate is commercial-grade software for non-safety-related application. We do not claim a safety classification, do not offer commercial-grade dedication, and will say so in writing at the start of a procurement rather than at the end of one.
Within that boundary the ordinary argument applies, and applies unusually well: a nuclear site runs decades-old building systems across dozens of structures, with more documentation obligation than anywhere else and the same four-consoles problem as every other estate.
Cyber security expectations for digital assets at nuclear sites are a site programme question, assessed with your own security organisation. Indagate holds no nuclear-specific certification and none is implied.
The documentation burden is the cost
On a nuclear site, work that would be routine elsewhere carries a records obligation, and the cost lands on assembling evidence rather than on doing the work. When the trend, the alarm, the intervention and the person who approved it are in four systems, that assembly is manual every time.
One record per asset, retained and attributable, is worth more here than anywhere else — precisely because here somebody always asks.
